A Weird babysitting Experience. (A Halloween Story). By Lumi Tarhala.

 A Weird Babysitting Experience

While talking to the girl I was babysitting, I made my way further into the house. I had the DVD and Popcorn in my bag.

“I bought a movie. You like movies, Mandy?” I inquired. Over my shoulder, I could see Mandy nodding and I got an idea:

“Why don’t you go to your room to get your teddy bear?”. Mandy went to her room. I turned to look at the living room.

“That's pretty creepy” I said, looking at the disturbingly realistic, life-size doll dressed like a clown. I picked up the blanket from the couch and put it over the doll.

Then I put the DVD in and went into the kitchen and put the popcorn into the microwave. I returned to see that Mandy was on the couch, eyeing the blanket. I told her about the movie, but I heard the microwave go off, so I went into the kitchen.

When I returned, the blanket had slipped off the doll. I almost dropped the bowl, when I realized that Mandy wasn’t there. I called out to her a few times, moving along the house. Finally I found her crying in her room. I comforted her the best I could, laying with her on the bed. After she calmed down, we stayed in her room and played with toys, until I put her to sleep.

I heard keyes dingling, so I hurriedly got my bag and went to greet the parents.

“Mandy is asleep. She panicked earlier, I think she was scared of the clown doll in the living room. But we handled it”, I said before leaving. I heard Mr. Scrone say:

“What is she talking about? I’ve never seen one in our living room, is it a part of your porcelain collection?”

“No”, said Mrs. Scrone.

Later that night I got a message from them asking if I had left the living room window open.

Speaking and Writing: The Productive Skills

Concept Cards Activity

For this module I planned an activity that could help my students with the concepts we had in our reading material. I wrote the concepts on index cards, and my trainees wrote the definitions on the back. At the end I used the cards to ask them questions.

As we usually do for this type of activities we sat  at our round table.  Cards were placed facing up, so students chose the concepts they were  familiar with. They were asked to write the definitions on the back of the cards, they were allowed to look up in their reading materials to check on the ones they didn´t remember well.  When they were done, they gave me the cards, and I asked them questions using the cards in random order. This activity could be done in a contest-like form giving points to the student or team who gets the answer right.

This activity promoted self-guidance and independent learning.  The teacher became a helper or a facilitator.

Well...we are about to end our Teacher Training Course this June.  I had a great group this year!!Students who tought me many new things...basically about perserverance and dedication.  Lupita and Maribel are a great example of these.  Lupita showed me how you can accomplish anything you put your mind on.... having sometimes a bit of trouble handling all the new concepts in each lecture , she always managed to come forward, participate and do a great job!....Great lesson planning and interpretation of theory. Always willing to participate and give examples.... and a sweet young lady...a great pleasure to have in class.
